PLACES TO VISIT NEAR EDINBURGH
The area around Edinburgh has many great places to visit. Here are some of the TMQA team’s favourite places to visit.
Within 1 Hour
Take a train from Edinburgh Waverley to Tweedbank and you will be travelling through the Borders. Melrose is a lovely town with a fabulous Abbey where the heart of Robert the Bruce is buried. Abbotsford House, the former home of author Sir Walter Scott is well worth a visit.
Glasgow is less than one hour from Edinburgh by train. A more industrial city than Edinburgh it has many gems for visitors. The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is particularly recommended and you can visit the city’s ancient University which is adjacent.
The Forth Bridges
There are now three of them. The famous rail bridge is joined by two road bridges, the newest being only opened in September this year. A train trip over the bridge is less than 20 minutes from Edinburgh or take a bus to South Queensferry to get great views of the bridges.
Within 2 Hours
The picturesque village of Luss is only one hour further west from Glasgow.
An absolute must for golf fans. Take the train from Edinburgh to Leuchars Junction and St Andrews is connected by local buses. In addition to the golf courses this is a fascinating, mediaeval university town.
